A DITLOID, sometimes known as an alpha-numeric, is a type of word puzzle, in which a phrase, quotation, date, or fact must be deduced from the numbers and abbreviated letters in the clue. Common words such as `the`, `in`, `a`, `an`, `of`, `to`, etc. Are not normally abbreviated. It is usually written in the form of an equation such as 7=D in a W (Seven days in a week). Here are some sheets containing examples. They are in pdf format and therefore can be printed out for use in your quizzes. I will add more over the coming months.

Dingbats are visual word puzzles from which a well known phrase or saying has to be identified. They are derived from the board game that was devised by Paul Sellars. Although similar in concept to the puzzles that were used in TV’s “Catchphrase”, dingbats generally rely on text rather than pictures, the picture style being more correctly known as a “REBUS”. The principle is however just the same, as Roy Walker would have said, “Just Say What You See!!!” Here are a selection that I have made, they come in pre-formatted sheets that can be printed or saved as pdf files. If you would like individual dingbats with which to make your own quiz sheets then check out the gallery section of the site. If you have any ideas or requests for other dingbat subjects please contact me and I will endevour to compile some.
